Light and Darkness
How often have you been scared of the dark? I know as a kid being scared of the dark was a given. Just to go outside one’s door at night was an act of bravery. So, what makes the dark so frightening?
Imagine yourself as a child, being lost in a strange place, no one with you and darkness all around. How would you feel? Then a light shines in the distance. How does the light make you feel? For me I would probably have a sense of relief and know the direction I needed to go.
No matter how old we get we are all children in God’s eyes. Children who are lost in darkness until we catch sight of the light. Once we find the light hopefully we become bearers of the light for others to see. The baby Jesus brought light into a dark world so all would have opportunity to see and follow. However, the choice of following the light or being in the dark is always up to us.
“Jesus therefore said to them, “Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness doesn’t overtake you. He who walks in the darkness doesn’t know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become children of light.” Jesus said these things, and he departed and hid himself from them. But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they didn’t believe in him, that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, “Lord, who has believed our report? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”” John 12:35-38 WEB
The issue is now clear. It is between light and darkness and everyone must choose his side. G.K. Chesterton
Imperfection is the prerequisite for grace. Light only gets in through the cracks. Phillips Brooks
The fundamental principle of Christianity is to be what God is, and he is light. John Hagee
