Quester

Have you ever gone on a scavenger hunt? If not, it involves being given a list of items to find. Sometimes the list is in the form of riddles to be solved. Each person or group is to search for everything on their list and the first to find all their items wins. During my time in scouts we had fun doing this on a number of outings. Today it would not surprise me to see participants asking google for help.

In medieval times knights were often sent out on quests. The quest was intended to be a test of worthiness. The most common story from this period was the quest for the holy grail. The intent of the quest was to seek and find something of value. What is your quest?

In our world today many people are on quests. They are searching for truth. Trouble is they are asking google for answers. Nothing wrong with using tools but they need to be the right tools. God provides us the tools we need for the journey. So, what is the quest God established?

Quester: a person who wants to learn/teach (searcher/seeker).

Exiles: living alongside but not part of the predominant culture (strangers and sojourners).

Tool: an object used to extend the ability of an individual to modify features of their surrounding environment.

“These are the words of the Quester, David’s son and king in Jerusalem: Smoke, nothing but smoke. [That’s what the Quester says.]…”
‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭1:1-11‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“I, Peter, am an apostle on assignment by Jesus, the Messiah, writing to exiles scattered to the four winds. Not one is missing, not one forgotten. God the Father has his eye on each of you, and has determined by the work of the Spirit to keep you obedient through the sacrifice of Jesus. May everything good from God be yours!” ‬‬1 Peter‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:3-6‬ ‭MSG‬‬
