I am not sure anyone in Canada has not had some exposure to the Star Wars series. It has permeated our culture. We use Star War references to make negative and positive comments. A boss may be referred to as a Sith Lord, or a Jedi Knight depending on how they treat others. Depending on the direction a friend is going they may get told they are going to the dark side, or to the light side. However you look at it the dark and the light sides of the force have very different connotations.
How often do we allow the dark side of life to control our thoughts and actions? The dark side of life draws its strength from anger and negativity. People may feel they have been wronged, or that they deserve more than they have been given. This negativity makes people useful instruments for the dark side’s agenda.
Like the Jedi of Star Wars fame, it is only when we practice living in the light that we become a force for good. It seems positivity is something that needs practice to become effective. Practice is work. Spiritual discipline is work. Too often it seems that knowing we are not saved by works we forget that work is still a large part of our lives in Christ. So, to be effective disciples of Jesus, we need to practice His truth and live in His light.
Who will be your master? Will you choose the side of light or the side of darkness?
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-9 ESV
A disciple continually practices their master’s teachings. What forces shape you?
